Unit 7 - Types of information:Focus on Periodicals

search used:internet AND resources AND (education OR entertainment)

Scholarly Journal:
Title:MOTIVES FOR INTERNET USE AND THEIR RELATIONSHIPS WITH PERSONALITY TRAITS AND SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC FACTORS.
Author:Kalmus, Veronika  - Realo, Anu - Siibak, Andra
Keywords:Internet use motives ,online activities, personality traits, socio-demographic differences, types of Internet use

ISSN:14060922
Accession Number:70837617

It has a nice abstract summary and credible sources and answers my question and has data to support its evidence such as survey data.

Magazine:
Not many relevant results at all but this seems to be the most relevant find.
Title:True -- or Not?
Authors:Abilock, Debbie
Subject Terms:electronic information,resource searching,web evaluation,internet in education
Source:Educational Leadership; Mar2012, Vol. 69 Issue 6, p70-74, 5p
ISSN:14060922
Accession Number:70837617

It helps explain and give partial answers to the question I'm looking for, didn't really expect much relevant answer though but it did touch on some aspects of my question.

Newspaper:
Title:Growing concern about Web sites for kids: banality.
Authors:Van Slambrouck, Paul
Subject Terms:internet & children,amusements,education,internet - social aspects
Source:Christian Science Monitor
ISSN:08827729
Accession Number:3379967

This source actually help explain some of the aspects of my question my last search with the magazine didn't answer.

Conclusion:I found this assignment helpful about using different sources and information for different types of questions. Each source may answer a question your looking for you couldn't find in your last source.I found the scholarly journals to be the most credible and helpful source to answer my question because it shows supporting evidence and data. The other sources(magazine and newspaper)were helpful in the fact it gave me idea of what the answer might be and show new doors to more information, however either one has true peer-to-peer review, supporting data or evidence to back their information up and can be biased.

  1. Hi, Tyler:

Thank you for your excellent report. You identified several relevant articles as well as differing uses for the content within. Your evaluation criteria for the scholarly article is sound and it's a good tool to have to be able to recognize a research article from the expanded citation. Becoming familiar with the database and the tools and filters available to you will serve you well in the future.

    Cheers,
    Andrea
